Mountains: Guardians of Clean Water and Life Mountains are among nature’s greatest treasures. They are not only majestic landscapes that inspire us with their beauty, but also natural guardians of water, forests, wildlife and human life. Many rivers and streams originate in the mountains. Rainwater and melting snow are stored in mountain ecosystems and gradually flow towards villages, towns and cities. This water supports household needs such as drinking, cooking, bathing and sanitation. Clean and safe water is essential for healthy families and peaceful communities. Agriculture also depends heavily on mountain water. Rivers and streams flowing from the mountains provide water for irrigation and help farmers grow crops. In many regions, mountain ecosystems act as natural water reservoirs, supporting food production even during dry periods. Protecting mountains therefore means protecting both water security and food security. However, deforestation, pollution, excessive construction, mining and climate change are putting mountain ecosystems under increasing pressure. When forests are destroyed, soil erosion increases and the natural ability of the land to store and filter water decreases. This can lead to floods during heavy rains and water shortages during dry seasons. We must therefore protect our mountains by conserving forests, preventing pollution, reducing plastic waste, harvesting rainwater and using water responsibly. Farmers can adopt water-saving irrigation methods, while households should avoid wasting clean water. Every drop of water that reaches our homes and fields has a story that often begins in nature’s mountains. By protecting mountains, forests and water sources today, we can secure a healthier and greener future for generations to come. Save Mountains. Protect Water. Sustain Agriculture. Secure Life.GOUSIA TGNGC JANGAON TELANGANA
