As part of our Biology activity, students conducted a Biodegradable and Non-Biodegradable Waste Experiment. Three containers were filled separately with plastic waste, vegetable scraps, and paper, then covered with soil and sprinkled with water. After a few days, the containers were opened and observed. The vegetable scraps had decomposed quickly, the paper had started to break down, but the plastic remained unchanged. Through this experiment, students understood that biodegradable materials decompose naturally with the help of microorganisms, while plastic does not decompose easily and remains in the environment for many years. They also learned that plastic pollution harms soil, water, animals, and human health. This hands-on activity helped students realize the importance of reducing plastic use, reusing materials, recycling waste, and protecting the environment for a cleaner and healthier future.
