India's First Hydrogen Train Completes 1200 km; Saves 3200 Liters of Diesel. India's first hydrogen train service has successfully completed 1,200 kilometers. The trial run, which commenced on the Jind-Sonipat route on July 17, has already saved the Railways over 3,200 liters of diesel. Emitting only harmless water vapor instead of toxic smoke, this train marks a significant milestone in India's transition toward green energy. Developed entirely indigenously by Indian Railways, the train consists of 10 coaches. It operates by generating electricity onboard through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. To ensure maximum passenger safety, the train is equipped with advanced sensors to detect gas leaks and smoke, along with an automatic shut-off system. Additionally, a dedicated hydrogen storage facility with a capacity of 3,000 kg has been established in Jind for refueling. Following the successful trial on the Jind-Sonipat stretch, test runs on the Delhi route are expected to commence soon.
