Best from Waste: A Success Story of Rani Laxmibai Girls Military School

In a world grappling with the dual challenges of waste management and food security, the Rani Laxmibai Girls Military School, Kasar Amboli Pune stands as a shining example of innovation and sustainability. Over a period from December 2024 to March 2025, this educational institute undertook a remarkable initiative that transformed approximately 9 tons of wet waste into fertile compost, showcasing how local solutions can effectively tackle global problems. The journey began with the establishment of a composting plant under the guidance of Smt. Anushka Kajbaje ,within the school premises. The intention was not only to manage the organic waste generated daily but also to create an opportunity for learning and skill development among the school staff . This hands-on training given by Smt. Anushka Kajbaje empowered them to operate and maintain the plant efficiently, ensuring that the process was sustainable long after the initial setup. The meticulous efforts of the Smt. Anushka Kajbaje and staff in managing the composting process have turned what was once waste into a valuable resource. This initiative not only addresses waste management but also exemplifies how schools can become self-sufficient by reusing resources. The girls at Rani Laxmibai are actively participating in agriculture, cultivating a range of vegetables including brinjal, radish, and spring onion and bottle guard. So far, they have successfully harvested 50 kilograms of brinjal, which is incorporated into the school meals.
